Following the Chancellor’s last service in the parish church of Saint Tighernach, Derryvullen South, attended by over one hundred parishioners, everyone went to the parish hall where there was a lovely display of refreshments including a delightful cake.
Before the tea the congregation were treated to an appropriate song by the young people of the Sunday School and a series of presentations followed. Introducing the presentations with kind words, the chairman, Robert Boles, presented an envelope to the Chancellor on behalf of the select vestry and parishioners. Further presentations were made to the Chancellor and Mrs Stewart by Kathleen Kettyles on behalf of the parish, Freda Burleigh and Rosemary Watts on behalf of the Mothers’ Union, Lewis Nixon and Harry Ingram, on behalf of the Sunday School. In his reply the rector expressed his thanks for all the hard work which went in to preparing for the event. He drew attention to the fact that he was the second longest serving rector in the history of the present churches of both Derryvullen South and Garvary. During his time as rector two parishioners were ordained, Charles Eames, Derryvullen South, and Alison Irvine, Garvary. Both he and Mrs Stewart have made many friends and have decided to make Fermanagh their home. He extended good wishes to the parishioners and to his successor. “There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind” C S Lewis framed inscription presented to the rector on behalf of Derryvullen South Mothers' Union. |
